Excellent in every way: the service was over the top! Our server was attentive and her recommendations were excellent. Four of us ordered 7 dishes, all delicious! I enjoyed my favorite unagi meshi with dash the most, of course. Can't beat the perfect, flavorful crust. Thank you for keeping up the quality!

TLDR: Love the Dry Curry I hope I don't come off as prejudicial, but I believe this place may actually be authentically run by Japanese. What led me to this deduction? *whisper* The rooms with no shoes! *whisper* I once was yelled at by the restaurant owner when I tried to climb around the table with my shoes on. It's scarred me even today. But it didn't happen at this place. So! Went here for lunch on a Friday. I saw from other reviews how crazy crowded it is, so I made a reservation. Interestingly... throughout my entire lunch, it wasn't that busy. I mean there were full tables, but no one was waiting or anything. Maybe it's busy only for dinner? We didn't order any tapas or anything. My friend and I both opted for a lunch special. He got the black pork katsu, while I tried their Pork Dry Curry. I didn't know what I was expecting... after all, dry curry... isn't that an oxymoron? I guess, the best way to describe it is curry, without too much sauce. It looked more like the minced pork was seasoned/cooked with curry and then just placed onto the bowl. It was really good! Not the absolute best Japanese curry I've had, but it was pretty good. I would definitely want to get it again. My friend let me try a piece of pork. it was a little dry, but not so dry I needed water to soften it up. But the breading was good, and crunchy. I liked that. I think if the pork were a little bit thicker, it wouldn't be dry. The wait staff were friendly, coming round often to top up our waters. price was reasonable for Cupertino. My friend told me he had been here before like 10 years ago. I hope it won't be another 10 years to come back again. It's a great place to go if you're in the mood for Japanese cuisine that's not sushi or ramen.

Hidden traditional Japanese gem! This spot is really popular, so I made a reservation. There was a long line when I arrived, but with the reservation, I got seated immediately. Some seating areas require you to take off your shoes, but I was seated in a section where that wasn't necessary. I ordered the grilled squid, mentaiko potato cheese gratin, risotto korokke, and salmon chazuke. The squid was my favorite, and the sauce for the risotto korokke was really nice. The gratin was good but a bit heavy, and the chazuke was a perfect finish.

Service - quick and attentive Food - all of the dishes were very well balanced, yet some such as the sea bass seemed to be missing some flavors like umami/salt Ambiance - reserved atmosphere but not too quiet Price - a little more expensive, some dishes were definitely more worth the price than others.

I came here for a birthday dinner. I've lived close to the plaza this restaurant is in for most of my life so I was pleasantly surprised to come across this here. The service felt very professional and I don't recall waiting long to be seated nor to have food delivered. The food is placed very aesthetically, and I remember liking the salad. The interior also a certain kind of ambiance to it with the paper-like walls and low tables. I remember having a pleasant time here but it did not feel super memorable, so this explains my 4 stars.

6pm on weekday, the front door is already busy before opening. We came with new born and the staff seated us with the stroller folded on the side against the wall. Flavor is as delicious as usual. I especially like my hotate uni carpaccio. It's the most tender scallop I've eaten in the US, and the uni tastes so fresh while portion is small for $30. Can't have enough! We also ordered stone pots with salmon and another one with pork. The kamo yuzu which is the duck breast is also tender, oily for those who would like it. The place getting full approaching 7. The environment not super noisy though.

One of my favorite ambience for a Japanese restaurant. I didn't know there was a restaurant in the area that had the traditional floor seating and shoe requirement. It was a great dining experience as it felt very homey and cozy. In terms of the food, it was a little pricey, but for the quality and taste, there was no dissapointment there. We ordered the unagi clay pot and the quantity of eel was enough to match the quantity of rice! I'd definitely go here again and would love to try more items on the menu

This is one of the spots I was recommended when I first moved to the Bay Area. It took me almost two years before visiting and I should have visited sooner! *Hamachi carpaccio ($21.50) - we started with this dish and it definitely set the bar. The dish was presented nicely. The hamachi was very fresh, and the sauce on top was refreshing. *Tori karaage ($11.50) - chicken was juicy but I wished it had more flavor *Unagi meshi ($36) - this is star of the night! Claypot rice with bbq eel, the sauce is sweet, the rice is crispy on the bottom and just soo much flavor! The restaurant gives off a casual ambiance with an option for table seating as well as tatami style seating (so be sure to wear socks as they would ask you to take your shoes off). It is also popping so reservations would be the way to go. But my friend and I were able to get a table when we came on Sunday around 6pm. I am definitely coming back to try more things!

Great fusion tapas place with regular seating but also traditional sitting on tatami with no shoes seating options. Reservations are a must. For my party of 5, we booked a week ahead and there was only 5:30 or 7:15 left for dinner. While busy, the service is fair and sometimes you just gotta wave for their attention. We ordered the unagi clay pot rice, salmon clay pot rice, udon noodle soup, pea sprouts, agedashi tofu, sirloin steak in a soy miso marinade, and grilled squid. We enjoyed the unagi rice, agedashi tofu, and steak the most! The others were not ad flavorful. Everyone loved the sweet potato custard and ice cream dessert! It's a must. Would definitely return - fun spin on Japanese food in a unique atmostphere.
